Managing actors is easier than musicians – says John Teye Nartey

A Celebrities Manager, John Teye Nartey has stated categorically that managing an actor is much more flexible and less stressful than managing a musician.

According to the young professional, artiste management is a difficult job but he has tried managing celebrities from both sides of the Ghanaian entertainment divide and actors are more easier to manage.

“The work schedules for an actor is not that demanding as a musician’s. Sometimes, booking auditions and contacting movie producers for contract are the major herdles but when it comes to personal management and maintaining the brand, it is not as time consuming as that of a musician”, he said.

Mr. Nartey said musicians can sometimes be difficult to handle, especially when it comes to looking for and negotiating performance deals for them.

“Scouting through event organisers and getting gigs for an artiste can cost you time and money. Sometimes, you the manager, has to double up as an event organisers, creating gigs and going on tours just maintain the brand”, he continued.

He also revealed that many of the musicians, especially the young ones, can be very arrogant and demanding, thereby creating a lot of mistrust and bad blood between artiste and manager.

“Just a little bit of fame sets them on edge and they feel they have arrived and that they don’t need you as a manager anymore”, he ended.

Mr. Nartey admitted that the movie industry in Ghana is not as thriving as the music industry and managing musicians is more lucrative “but the stresses and risks involved are little above expectations”.
